Meeting Digest

Hello all! Just wanted to push out an update regarding the past few meetings. We have had 2 meetings since I last updated, so here's the Reader's Digest version of what's been discussed so far:

Last Week:
  • Game- categories (go around the circle coming up with signs in the same category)
  • Directory Pictures- headshots taken of those present who volunteered; don't forget to send them to Suzy, or she'll facebook-stalk you and take one from there (and we all know that may not end up being the most flattering ;).
  • Date Party- bring in some ideas to the next meeting for us to vote on.
  • A.W.A.R.E.- volunteer sign-up sheet passed around; we'll contact you for training.
  • Dues- must pay to be an official member; also, no dues no TRACS/email (or cool shirt)!
  • Upcoming Events- Deaf Coffee, Bra design fashion show, TSD Homecoming
  • Committees- after everyone else was dismissed, those interested in joining a committee stuck around and met for the remainder of the meeting time.
This Week:
  • Introductions- we all introduced ourselves and showed off our name-signs!
  • Game- "Copy Me!" copy the sign of the person before you, then come up with your own!
  • Bra Design- pictures (and narrative) to come!
  • Dues- last chance to pay coming soon; remember, no dues no TRACS/Emails/Directory/Shirt!
  • Directory- make sure we have your correct information for the directory (you filled this out on the member info sheet at the beginning of the semester)
  • Pictures- make sure you send them in, or else we'll find the drunkest picture you have on Facebook and publish that!
  • Date Party- the general consensus was on "Second Chance Prom Masquerade;" date picked, but location to be decided at next meeting and by events committee.
  • T-Shirts- ordering set of 100 for price break and will sell extras in quad to recover some of the cost of making them; make sure your sizes and dues are turned in. Pictures to be posted soon!
  • Game- "Handshapes" can you come up with a sign in the "flat" handshape? (our interpreter obviously can!)
In addition to all this business, our Outreach Coordinator, Stephen Allen, from Student Organizations Council (SOC) showed up to lend us some ideas and other help for our upcoming events (you can click on his name for his Facebook, or on the SOC link to find out who they are). Also, for our Hard of Hearing Members, I will be getting in touch with ODS about getting us a real captionist. I'm trying to get the site and everything set up so that I can be a regular member and only have to put on my webmaster or pseudo-interpreter hat when things break down or someone doesn't show up.Plus I'm sure you (and honestly I imagine everyone else too) have realized that while I can type fast, I don't have enough short-term memory to actually type everything out that's said, so I figure we'll defer to a professional. I also have a new fancy video camera on the way so I will (hopefully) be able to record and stream the meetings live, as many members who aren't able to attend on Monday nights have expressed an interest in watching a recording of the meetings to stay caught up. It should be here within a week or so ;).

Hope everyone is now caught up on the goings-on in the ASL Club and don't forget to check the Upcoming Events page to find a list of... well... our upcoming events! And of course, pictures from our past events are on, you guessed it, the Past Events page.

TTFN!
~RJ
